Ferrari has obtained the three stars of the FIA Environmental Accreditation Program.

The program conceived by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile aims to help the protagonists of motorsport and automotive to evaluate the measures implemented by each organization in terms of environmental sustainability through an independent certification process.

The FIA Environmental Accreditation Program is based on existing best practices in environmental sustainability, primarily ISO 14001. Ferrari, which has already been recognized this certification since 2001, renewed in 2016 according to the new ISO 14001: 2015 standards, has thus was able to take advantage of the planned preferential route to obtain the highest level, namely the three stars.

Over the years, the Group has been committed to containing energy consumption and minimizing the environmental impact, adopting innovative solutions and using renewable sources for production plants. This result can be attributed, among other things, to a meticulous management of energy needs, 81% of which was also covered by the Maranello trigeneration system, while almost 99% of the remaining share was purchased from renewable sources. certified.

Ferrari's commitment to reducing environmental impact, however, is nothing new and has already produced noteworthy results. In 2020, the Group achieved its goal of reducing the CO 2 emissions of the European fleet by an estimated percentage of 35% compared to 2007 levels.

Another much more ambitious goal awaits it now: to become a carbon neutral company by the end of the decade, through a series of actions aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and compensating for residual ones, when other solutions are not feasible. This further and decisive step towards sustainability will kick off the certification of the Group's carbon footprint already this year.

The commitment to environmental sustainability also sees Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow at the forefront, sharing the goal of being a Net Zero Carbon sport by 2030 with Formula 1 and all the stakeholders of the highest car competition.

A long journey but one that has already seen the completion of some projects in these first months of 2021, such as the elimination of non-reusable plastic during the Grand Prix, implemented starting from the Spanish Grand Prix.

An integral part of this process is the support of the Scuderia's partners. The collaboration with Shell is an example of this. Starting from the recent Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, the fuel used to power the generators necessary for track operations is made up of 60% renewable raw materials and 40% of GTL (gas-to-liquid). Thanks to this solution, the use of this fuel will make it possible to halve the level of emissions produced by generators compared to the past while those that cannot be eliminated will be offset by natural solutions capable of reducing the intensity of carbon in the energy produced.

Mattia Binotto, Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow Managing Director and Team Principal:

“The achievement of the three stars within the FIA Environmental Accreditation Program represents an important recognition for Ferrari. The issue of environmental sustainability is increasingly a priority also in motor racing. It is a commitment that we feel strong as a Scuderia, both in daily activities - as evidenced by the two projects we have implemented in this first part of 2021 - and in the long term. Formula 1 has today reached a very high technological level in terms of power unit efficiency and we are working intensively, together with the FIA, Formula 1 and the other car manufacturers involved in defining the regulatory framework for the future, keeping in mind the objective to transfer the best solutions identified on the track to road cars,

Felipe Calderón, President of the FIA Environment and Sustainability Commission:

“We are delighted with Ferrari's strong commitment to environmental sustainability and reward it with three stars, the highest level of FIA environmental accreditation. We are confident that it will serve as a catalyst for further changes in Formula 1, motorsport and automotive mobility as a whole, as part of the #PurposeDriven movement launched by the FIA. 55 certifications have already been awarded since the beginning of the FIA Environmental Accreditation Program and it is a great result ".
